Fun Facts Friday

Wow. What a week. I got closer to my goal, and the weather here--crazy. One day 80 and sunny and today 50 and rain. Oh yeah totally fun.

1. My kids amaze me. It's funny how you can see yourself in them. It also scary. My daughter wants to write a chapter book. She started to come up with a story, and designed her own cover. Like I said on facebook, if she writes a query, I'm might be a little jealoous.

2. My son is totally into Star Wars (he's only seen the pod race scene in Episode I), but he loves it. Brings a little tear to my eye.

3. These lovelies came in the mail on Wednesday:

I can't wait to read them. I have to get through the other 20 books I have waiting for me. Book addict, um, yeah. Give me your thoughts if you read any of them.

4. I hope to make it to the next Philly Lit night on May 14th. Can't wait.

5. I'm excited for the Royal Wedding. Yes, you may think I'm nuts, but I like the whole tradition of it. Maybe it's the princess in me. I'm actually excited to see it, and watch it with my daughter. I got to see Princess Diana and Prince Charles wedding via TV and loved seeing the whole procession. I'm curious what my daughter will say since she wants to be a princess when she grows up.

6. Still debating on what tense to write my current WiP in. If you write in first person present tense, do you  have any pointers.

7. 30 Rock totally cracks me up.

8. I plan to post a clip for Writing the Next Line on Thursday. I'm going to be M.I.A. for a week so I thought it might be fun.

Alright, so there you have it. Not much due to my writing like a maniac, and reading through an MS for a CP. Plus, Easter is this weekend so I'm baking a lot of stuff. Oh and I'm taking my kids to see Elmo Live. Should be interesting.

Any weekend plans?

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Yes, the wedding. I can't decide whether to get up at 3am and watch it live from the BBC, or wait until a decent hour and watch it with the rest of the world.

Weekend plans -- finish putting the house back in order to have dinner with the parents. I have to cook considering they're tearing their kitchen out.

  2. I'm waiting for Revolution to come in the mail, hopefully before I leave next week so I can read it on the plane! I'm hoping my library will get Desires of the Dead since they have the first one; and I've read ATU. My tbr pile is finally getting smaller. Kind of!

I've never written 1st person present tense but I'm reading Firelight right now and it's done really well.

  5. I'm in Revision Hell this weekend. With no kids and a husband who loves gaming, I should get LOTS done. :)

  6. Woot for Philly Lit Night! :D

Also, the thing to watch out for in first person present is to make sure you're not writing anything outside the POV of your MC. No thoughts from other people, no editorial commentary, nothing. It's all filtered through your character's perceptions.

See? I can be helpful, as well as snarky. ;)

    Happy weekend, m'dear!

  7. dangit! I lost my comment... mbrrr... OK, let me see. I think I said something like I LOVE 30 Rock also--that is like the best show on TV right now. And I said hooray for your daughter! And I was thinking about my next MS POV. I'm considering mixing 3rd person omniscient w/1st person. There was one other thing... hmmm... OH! The Royal Wedding. I got up before dawn to watch Diana get married as a little kid, so I guess I'll be doing it again~ :D <3 Have a great Easter weekend!

  8. Let's see, my weekend is more than half over, but...

Driving lessons with my brother - check!

Writing meeting with a friend at a local coffeeshop - check!

    New Doctor who - tonight.

A meal with family - tomorrow.

In other news, I'm starting up a 'Critiquing Crusaders' program, where participants in the Second Crusade can find other writers to exchange critiques with or form critiquing circles. If you're interested, come by The Kelworth Files to check it out!

  9. I've read DESIRES OF THE DEAD and it's excellent. Couldn't stop reading! Haven't read the others yet, but I've heard good things.

My mother's really into the Royal Wedding. Are you planning to get up at 4 am to watch it?? Ha ha.

My first book was written in first person present tense, but since it's never been revised or critiqued and will probably never see the light of day, I don't really have any pointers. When I was writing it, it just seemed to NEED to be present tense. I actually didn't plan to write it that way. Try it for a few pages. You'll know if it's right.

  10. I just can't get into the Royal Wedding thing. Don't give a crap.

However, I do love me some 30 Rock!

I read Revolution a couple months ago and didn't really care for it. The writing was good and the story was okay--it just wasn't my cup of tea.
