Brainstorming is one of the best parts in writing a story (at least, I think so). I do talk a lot when I do it, so if anyone is in the house, they may question my sanity. It amazes me how much can be worked out. It's like you're acting in your own movie. Way fun. So, I think a little exercise may get some of these juices flowing.
It's also important to stay healthy. I'm not saying cut out the chocolate. *holds heart* Unless it's absolutely necessary, then cut back if you have too. What I'm saying is --we exercise our brains pretty much every minute of the day-- I think our body needs to move too. Plus, I'm thinking this will help with working problems out in my MS and helping with some new ideas that have appeared in my brain. Seriously, I've had four new ideas this week with characters speaking to me, which I had to write down immediately (I was writing one down last night while waiting for a friend at a restaurant). My brain is about to explode and I'm ready to eliminate sleep and write them all. (I keep picturing me wearing those eye devices from A Clockwork Orange, and typing all night long.) I know, weird visual.
Of course, I could get the treadmill desk, or figure out how to make one, and all my problems would be solved. The only thing is--I don't think I'm that coordinated.
Are you brainstorming and working out the kinks by exercising?
If you have the laptop treadmill, let me know how you like it?
Have a great weekend!
You get a treadmill with a desk for your laptop, you may never get off of it!
ReplyDelete*gasps* A treadmill desk! I totally need that. I haven't started my new year exercising goal because I've been trying to keep up with my writing ones. Yet if I could do them together.....
ReplyDeleteI run too fast to use a laptop treadmill. When I run, I let my mind wander, which is when the ideas come to me. I might not even be thinking about my wip with the idea hits.
ReplyDeleteI need to co=op one of the treadmills at my apartment gym and make that desk--that is too awesome! Exercising is the best brainstorming time for me, too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteA treadmill desk sounds good. But I can't imagine typing or revising and walking at the same time! I run everyday and it's a great time work out plot problems!
ReplyDeleteBrainstorming is one of the reasons I keep writing. Ideas come easy to me. It's working them out that makes me pull my hair out. lol I do exercise, usually 4 to 5 times a week. Being a dancer, it's something I've done all my life. I find it very mentally therapeutic, clearing my mind.
ReplyDeleteGood for you!!! Two years ago I wanted to get into running but knew that I would need a big push. So, I did a crazy thing. I signed up for the Philly Half Marathon (my first race ever). It was awesome and I'm so glad I did it!!! I still not a big fan of running but I always feel great when I'm done!! Take is slow at first. A good program to do is called from couch to 5k. And, you're right- it totally helps with brainstorming!!
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of my writing on the track or taking long walks. I need a break from the computer to reboot, and like you say, it helps unkink the kinks.
ReplyDeletePlus, I sleep better if I exercised that day. And when you sleep better, you think better, and you write better!

I so wouldn't be able to use the laptop treadmill. Something would break, and I think it would be me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your running goals, Christine. I walk, but running's probably a lot better for you.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, time away from your WIP is always helpful. Just don't brainstorm while driving...
I use the elliptical instead of the treadmill.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a treadmill, and the attached desk would be pretty cool, too, but I'm afraid I'm not that coordinated either.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to exercise more too. At my children's taekwondo place, there's an exercise bike I never see anyone use, so I've been riding it the last couple of weeks. But I don't brainstorm--I play Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja.
